HTC Thunderbolt Update Coming Soon; Not Android 2.3 Gingerbread Though [New HTC Thunderbolt OTA Update to Address 3G Connectivity & Messaging Issues]
A new HTC Thunderbolt update is just around the corner, and as much as we’d like to tell you it’s the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade you’re waiting for, I’m afraid we’re only looking at a maintenance update meant to fix certain issues with your phone.

The Thunderbolt will get its Gingerbread share soon, only it’s not going to be in the following few days. The update we’re looking at today, as leaked by a recent Verizon document, is build 1.13.605.7, baseband: 1.16.00.0402w_1 “for your Thunderbolt by HTC.”
What will it bring to your phone you ask? A bunch of fixes and improvements, which are conveniently listed for you below:
Web Browsing and Data Access
+ Enhanced data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network.
Email and Messaging
+ SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging
Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.).
Additional Device Features
+ Timing for device activation has been improved.
+ “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu.
+ Stability improvements for data centric applications such as
Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more.
+ Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget.
+ Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigator™.
Since the quote above is extracted from an official PDF file found on Verizon’s website we can only assume Big Red is going to roll it out soon, so make sure you get ready for this upcoming OTA in the following days, although we don’t have a specific ETA for you at this time. But once the update does hit, make sure you have a working Wi-Fi network available close by (LTE should do it too, after all it’s an LTE device) and a decent battery charge to handle the upgrade. And don’t forget to tell you how it all went down.
