Samsung Galaxy S II (Main iPhone 5 Rival?) International Release Dates Pending [Samsung Galaxy S 2 Is Invading South Korea First, 120 International Markets to Follow In Its 2011 Quest Against the iPhone 5]
The Samsung Galaxy S was the Android star of 2010, as Samsung managed to infiltrate this Android smartphone in plenty of worldwide markets and sell no less than 10 million units in a little less than six months (that number has gone up to 14 million to date). The same phone is also the star of an important litigation between Apple and Samsung as Cupertino alleges the Galaxy S is modeled on the iPhone 3G/3GS experience, although that’s a different bedtime story for a future date.

What’s important today is that Samsung appears to be ready to unleash the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Galaxy S successor launched at MWC 2011, in no less than 120 international markets starting with home-sweet-home, South Korea.
Again, Samsung plans to sell around 10 million Galaxy S II handsets this year, which is consistent with last year’s plans, but considering the impressive growth of Android in the last year, we could see Samsung beat that estimate. On the other hand, from a different point of view, there are various other flagship Android smartphones from competitors like HTC, Motorola, LG and others, ready to face the Galaxy S II right now. Not to mention that the greatest rival of all is going to be yet-to-be-announced iPhone 5, so can Samsung miss than 10 million barrier?
Before arriving in the stores of 140 vendors across the world, the Galaxy S II will go South Korea starting today, as the three mobile operators in the country are all said to be ready to launch it. The press release also says that, despite being an upgraded smartphone, the Galaxy S II will cost less than its forefather. The full price for the Galaxy S II is 840,000 won (or $768,) which is 100,000 won less than the original Galaxy S.
