HTC Surround Windows Phone 7 “NoDo” Software Update Expected Soon [HTC Surround NoDo Update Moves Into Scheduling Phase, Means The Surround Will Finally Catch Up To The AT&T Branded Focus & Quantum Smartphones]

AT&T confirmed the good news in terms of the NoDo software update process for two of their three Windows Phone 7 smartphones back on April 20th. And while that left those using a Samsung Focus or LG Quantum smiling, it did not bring the same joy for those using the HTC Surround.

Well flash forward till today and we have word of an update. Sadly, the actual update is not yet rolling out, however according to Microsoft, the process has moved into the scheduling phase. And for those wondering, the scheduling phase is said to “typically” last 10 business days or less. In other words, those sporting an AT&T branded HTC Surround should be getting an update notification sooner rather than later. It also means that the Surround will catch up to the Focus and Quantum in terms of software.

Otherwise, for those who may need the reminder, the NoDo update brings the long awaited ability to copy and paste. But perhaps a little nicer, well maybe nicer for AT&T looking to take some of the strain off their cellular network — the AT&T NoDo update also brings support for the “WISPr” protocol which means your device will be able to automatically switch from the cellular network to publicly available AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots. And lastly, there is also added support for AT&T Address Book in the form of wireless sync.

With that, now that this update seems to be on track and (almost) ready to finish rolling out for Windows Phone 7 users the new rumors and chatter should likely switch to when we will be seeing Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) arrive. But then again, lets not get that far ahead because as of now that update is still listed as the rather general sounding “later this year.”

And while the NoDo update was nice, I for one will go out and say that the Mango update should be much nicer, after all it will give the developers more ability to integrate with the Live Tiles as well as access to the Motion Sensor library and even to the camera. Plus, the Mango update is also going to add multitasking.
