Google Nexus S Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread & Android 3.1 Honeycomb Updates Coming Soon?

Android 2.3.4 to Bring Video Chat to GTalk; Android 3.1 to Bring Flash Player 10.2 With Hardware Accelerated Video Support

Gingerbread and Honeycomb are Google’s latest mobile operating systems for Android smartphones and tablets, respectively, and while they aren’t available on that many devices right now, it looks like Google is interested in updating them both in the coming weeks.

The Google Nexus S, the first Android handset in the world to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread is about to be updated to version 2.3.4 while other devices out there, from various smartphone manufacturers are yet to get the highly expected Gingerbread update itself, let alone the latest 2.3.4 version. In case you own a Nexus S then you should look for the update in the near future, which is said to bring video chat to Google Talk, a nice perk to have in case you’re into video conferencing. In case you own a different Android phone with Gingerbread on board (either official or not) then you’ll have to wait a while for Google to make the same features available to your handset.

Flash Player 10.2 (version 10.2.157.51 to be more precise) is coming to Honeycomb, but in order to really take advantage of it you’ll need Android 3.1, a Honeycomb update that Google should roll out soon. Of course, this could all be an error, a glitch in the Android Market matrix, as this Flash version is apparently requiring now Android 3.0 in Google’s app store instead of Android 3.1 as in the screenshot above. The most important features this new Flash build brings to the table are hardware accelerated video presentation, enhanced browser integration for Honeycomb tablets and various bug fixes and security enhancements.

We have no ETA on either the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread (for both Nexus S and non-Nexus S smartphones) of the Android 3.2 Honeycomb updates, so stick around, folks, for more details about these upcoming Android firmware versions in the following weeks.
