The Witcher 2 On Consoles? Not Until The PC Version Has Launched, Says CD Projekt [Don't Expect The Witcher 2 To Land On Consoles Anytime Soon - CD Projekt Says That They Won't Even Start Work On It Until The PC Version Has Released]
Let’s rewind to 2007 for a moment: CD Projekt’s RPG The Witcher had landed on PC, and anticipation was high for the updated console version of the game, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, which was planned to utilize an entirely new engine and combat system. Unfortunately, that game never saw the light of day, and with an expected release date two years after the original one launched on PC, console gamers were left hanging for a mighty long time before their hopes of playing The Witcher from their couch were dashed for good.

It’s understandable, then, that CD Projekt Red’s Thomasz Gop was a bit reserved in talking about a console version of The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings to Eurogamer, saying that a version of the game for Xbox 360 and/or PS3 is definitely not in production at this time.
“We’re definitely not a team that can do multiple projects at the same time,” Gop said. “We’re warily not doing it this way because it might compromise the quality of the first PC release.”
Gop also said that, unlike The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, console players would be getting the same game that releases on PC (should they be getting it at all): “Production wise – coordination and scheduling and budgeting – this is a new project for us. But it’s not going to be a completely different game: it’s going to be the same storyline and everything.”
While he didn’t confirm anything about Witcher 2 on console, he did point out that just because CD Projekt Red is choosing to wait until it launches on PC before going into production doesn’t mean that production is dependent on the success of the PC version. “We won’t wait to see how well The Witcher 2 does on PC first. After we release The Witcher 2 on PC we just sit down with Excel or Project and make schedules, make plans. Then we will be totally glad to announce what is coming out.”
Well, one thing’s for sure: once CD Projekt decides they have something to announce, we’ll be sure to be let you know that they’ve announced it.
