Epix Adds Content To Google TV, Plans Apps For Playbook, Roku, And Android

Movie Channel Epix, Backed By Lions Gate, Paramount, and MGM, Looks To Add Large Amount Of Content To Variety Of Devices

Google TV users have a lot more reason to be happy in the near future, as it was announced today that Epix, a movie channel comprised of content from Lions Gate, Paramount and MGM, has thrown a load of support behind not only Google TV, but also Android, Roku, and the recently snubbed Blackberry Playbook.

Epix’s library comprises fully 3000 movies across the three member studios involved (which, when you consider which studios are involved, actually doesn’t sound out of line), and some originally thought, when it emerged, it would spell the end of Netflix as more studios opened up larger distribution arms. It didn’t quite end up that direly, of course, but it changed the game a bit.

The Google TV version is, at last report, already up and operational, and the future versions are set to follow for the rest of the aforementioned platforms. Epix’s plans are actually pretty interesting as they’re playing in relatively untouched ground. Netflix’s presence on Android is still soft at best, and we only just saw how Hulu gave the big snub to the Blackberry Playbook (though that may not last), so for Epix to wander in and offer 3000 titles likely makes both aggrieved parties feel a whole lot better about their choice in portable gear.

Even better, if you’re packing an iOS device–iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone–Epix has an app waiting in the wings, currently just waiting for Apple to sign off on it.

And just to top it off, the full list of expected landing pads for the Epix streaming portal even includes both Samsung televisions and Samsung Blu-ray players to boot, meaning your home theater setup is about to get an even bigger shot in the arm than previously imagined.

So pretty much whatever your device of choice may be, look for it to start getting a substantial load of new content on it soon thanks to the folks out at Epix.
