Crucial M4 Solid State Drives Get Prices And Launch

Following Solid Reviews, The Crucial M4 Solid State Drives Start Hitting Shelves Soon

You’ve seen the early reviews about the Crucial M4 solid state drives (again thanks to our own Kevin Schram who brought them here in the first place), and they’re probably looking pretty attractive to you right now. But one thing we didn’t have at the time was pricing on them, and thankfully, we do now. Brace yourselves, because this is going to clout you one right in the…wallet.

We all know that the Crucial M4 drives are fast. How fast? Well, they’ve been through some pretty substantial benchmarking, and have yielded impressive results like an average write speed of 214 MB/s, and a 335 MB/s sequential read speed. That’s reason enough for most anybody to sit up and take notice, and it only got better when more generalized overall performance tests turned out even better. Crucial itself, meanwhile, claims even better overall speeds at last report, saying they will hit read speeds of up to 415 MB/s and write speeds up to 260 MB/s, which sounds about like what the benchmarking in tech reviews turned out.

But the question no one was quite willing to pin down–the question I’m sure most everyone was asking when they heard about these solid state drives turning their competition into so much chopped has–was just how much they cost. And now that they’re starting to hit shelves, the pricing data has followed right along.

The 64 gig model of Crucial M4 will set you back $130. Yeah, I know–if that’s where we’re starting the upper end is going to look less like storage prices and more like whole system prices, so brace yourselves. The 128 gig model will weigh in at $250, the 256 gig model will go to $500, and, as you likely figured, going for the 512 gig model will yank a whopping $1000 from your unsuspecting wallet.

They’re available direct from Crucial right now, and offer up a three year warranty to boot, so if you’re looking to add some high performance (albeit lower storage) storage space and don’t mind dropping plenty of cash, you can head out there right now and lay hands on one of these.
