Acer ZGB Chrome OS Notebook Details Surface

Recently Revealed Acer ZGB Notebook Details Suggest It Will Be Intel Atom Based, Running Chrome OS & Feature An HDMI Port

Way back in August of last year we learned that Acer was working on a Chrome OS based notebook. At the time the details were rather slim, however the notebook was dubbed the Acer ZGA.

Well, coming not all that long after those details were discovered, Acer reportedly cancelled the ZGA notebook project. But good news for Chrome OS fans — it looks like they have picked things up and resumed the project under the not so original codename of ZGB. Yup, the just switched the original A for a B.

But either way, the Acer ZGB looks like it will be a Chrome OS notebook. The scoop is coming by way of a bug report that was discovered by Macles. In short, the details are rather light, but it does give some hope for what we may see in the future. Or probably more accurately, it gives a slight tease that leaves us wanting more.

That said, the detail so far suggest that the Acer ZGB will be sporting a 1366 x 768 resolution display and have an LVDS to HDMI encoder by Chrontel. According to Macles, the breakdown of the encoder is as follows;

“The CH7036 is specifically designed for Consumer Electronics Devices and Personal Computers that require High Definition (HD) Content video playback on the external displays. This IC implements an advanced LVDS receiver, a powerful video encoder, a flexible scaling engine and easy-to-configure audio interfaces which can seamlessly convert the LVDS signal source into HDMI /DVI formats as well as the analog RGB legacy display.”

Bottom line here, we have what appears to be two small pieces of a larger puzzle. And unfortunately, neither by themselves are all that exciting, but that aside it is nice to see that someone is working on a Chrome OS notebook. Of course, we only say that because we have become big fans of the OS ever since a Cr-48 made its way into the offices.
