Amazon MP3 Android App Gets Updated, Now Sports Lock Screen Music Controls [Amazon Updates MP3 App To Version 2.0.4, Fixes Bugs & Corrects Issues Dealing With Gingerbread & Honeycomb]

Amazon officially announced and launched the Cloud Drive and Cloud Player app back on March 29th, and as of today the app has just been updated yet again. This update brings the app up to version 2.0.4 and with that comes a welcomed new feature as well as some updates that should make Xoom users happy.

Not to mention, Amazon looks to be taking care of everyone with this latest update. In addition to fixing issues that some were having with the Xoom, they also took care of issues for CM7 (CyanogenMod 7). Basically, that should make those with rooted Android phones smile in knowing that Amazon is looking out for them.

Otherwise, the Amazon MP3 app requires Android 1.6 or later and will use 1.6MB for installation space. That said, according to the “what’s new” section in the Android Market, here is what you can expect to see with Amazon MP3 version 2.0.4 (and some of the features that were added in 2.0.3).

  • Fixed CM7/Xoom issues
  • Added lock-screen music controls
  • Enabled playback using preset equalizer modes for Gingerbread and Honeycomb (Android OS 2.3+)
  • Enabled the app to remember the last playing song after the app or device goes to sleep
  • Enabled skipping back to the previous song using Bluetooth player controls

With that, things seem to be shaping up nicely for the Cloud Player app, not only is Amazon trying to take care of and make sure the app works properly on a wide variety of devices, but they are also adding new features. Personally, the lock screen music controls are a huge addition. Though, while I say that is a huge addition, I must confess that after the initial excitement surrounding the Cloud Drive and Cloud Player — I went back to streaming using Rdio and/or Slacker. That said, I wonder how many others are in similar situations. But either way, it is nice to have seen Amazon take this leap and begin offering the Cloud Drive because if nothing else — it should open the door for others.
