Viper Brings Their SmartStart Protection Into The Home
We have mentioned the Viper SmartStart system several times here on TFTS in the past. Honestly, it seems like a rather nice system for those who are willing to shell out a few hundred bucks. And well, Viper has announced a new update and this comes with not only the same functionality in terms of your car, but they have added home alarm integration.

Anyway, the latest version of the app is 2.2 and it has come available in the iOS App Store for iPhones running iOS 3.0 or later. That said, the Viper SmartStart system is also available for Android and the BlackBerry, however an update with home alarm support is not yet available.
With that, the home integration comes by way of Alarm.com and means that users will be able to not only arm and/or disarm their home system but that they can also check the status of their alarm directly from an iPhone.
Other features that come along with Viper SmartStart version 2.2 include;
- Retina display support
- Enhanced user interface & feedback
- Built-in Help pages
And lastly, this latest update also added in support for the new Viper SmartStart GPS feature which helps to locate your vehicle and set speed alerts. Plus, the SmartStart GPS also allows for social network check-ins, low battery alerts and a lockdown alert if you car has been moved without your permission.
That said, while all of this sounds really cool, being able to remotely lock down your car and set alerts that monitor if someone is driving your car fast and arming and disarming your home alarm — it all comes with added hardware and added monthly expenses. In short, having all of this may allow you to feel like you are living in the future, however the future does not come cheap. Remember, the basic setup will set you back $399 for the hardware and $49.99 on an annual basis.
