Netflix May Soon Be The Largest US Based Subscription Entertainment Business
While we have seen some of the Q1 2011 quarterly reports come in already, we are still waiting for the official word from Netflix. And for those wondering, that is expected to arrive sometime later today. But in the meantime, we are listening to the analysts and reading some sensational headlines.

So, the obvious is there in that this has not yet been confirmed by Netflix, but that aside, it is interesting to read. Not to mention, with Netflix being compatible with such as wide variety of devices (more than 250) — this all seems rather believable at this point. Anyway, according to the Hollywood Reporter;
“Analysts are figuring that Netflix will have added around 3.7 million subscribers to its ranks, giving it 23.7 million, give or take 100,000.”
And to take that a step forward into the future, it was noted that assuming Netflix continues on their current growth path, they could have more than 30 million subscribers by the end of 2011.
We have also seen the headline catching stats in the past about how Netflix streaming is dominating the prime time hours, however as of today we have another bit of analysis. According to the NPD Group;
“61 percent of all movies viewed through the Internet are done so courtesy of Netflix.”
As for the competition in that, Comcast is currently sitting at number 2 in terms of online movies and Netflix is said to be streaming 8 times more than Comcast.
Of course these more and more devices that are available are likely some overlap within families and that may end up becoming a problem for regular Netflix users. Some may not realize, but according to Netflix “you may watch instantly on up to 6 unique devices.” And sure, 6 devices may sound like quite a bit, but not when an average family may have several phones, an iPod touch, iPad, Roku or Netflix ready television.
