PlayStation Network Down on Day Four But Servers Expected to be Back Online on Monday & Tuesday [PSN & Qriocity Servers Down (Error 80710A06) as Sony Works Round the Clock for a Fix; Anonymous DoS Involvement Suspected]
PlayStation owners know by now that Sony has shut down its PlayStation Network servers and its services have not been resumed yet. Everything started on Wednesday and we’re now on the fourth day of downtime. Sony is yet to come clean about the whole thing, but there are various reports and speculations in the wild that claim to know more about what really happen.

It looks like Sony’s PSN servers were took down by denial-of-service attacks, also known as DoS or DDoS, which is exactly the kind of external intrusion that would take the PlayStation Network out of business for such a long time. Furthermore it’s being said that DoS attacks targeted PSN servers that store user account information and, even more interestingly, that some administrator developer accounts were breached at some point during this operation.
The guys behind the attacks are believed to be Anonymous, a group of hackers that hassled Sony with similar attacks in the past. Therefore a link behind the outcome of the legal proceedings between Sony and hacker Geohot and current attacks could be suspected, although at this point there’s really nothing to confirm any suspicions yet.
The (unconfirmed) good news is that Sony will resume PlayStation Network regular activity starting with Monday in Japan followed by Tuesday in the USA and European Union. We’re yet to receive any confirmation from Sony on the matter, and we’re certainly expecting more explanations from the giant corporation.
As for you, PlayStation hardcore gamers, all there is left to do is enjoy your family and friends quality time this Easter, forget about console multiplayer games for a few more days, and keep following us via Twitter or by subscribing to our feed to keep close tabs on this whole PSN predicament. We’ll bring you fresh updates once we have them.
