Borderlands' Claptrap Helps One Fan Pop The Question

Gearbox Software Helps Two Borderlands Fans Take Their Relationship To The Next Level

The amount of negative stereotypes associated with gaming can make it hard for someone who is heavily into video games to find love. For this reason, a relationship between two gamers is a special thing, especially when they share the same favorite game – in this case, Gearbox’s brilliant FPS/RPG Borderlands.

Yes, Ben and Tora have seen almost everything Borderlands has to offer: they’ve taken Roland and Lilith through both of the game’s playthroughs together, making it all the way to level 61 through play that was purely co-operative (even though Ben admits that Tora was consistently the better mercenary of the two).

It makes sense, then, that Ben would want their favorite video game to be a part of his marriage proposal. In a move that can only be described as “awesome,” Gearbox agreed to help Ben pop the question by making a video featuring the game’s mascot Claptrap asking the question on Ben’s behalf, even though Claptrap’s handling of something as serious as a marriage proposal can’t exactly be described as “tactful.”

The funny and somewhat inappropriate video can be seen below, along with Tora’s reaction to the proposal (sorry pessimists, she said yes). Yeah, this isn’t really news, but it’s a heartwarming story of a studio as great as Gearbox taking the time to help a big fan propose to his girlfriend in a unique and clever way.

“From a gamer’s point of view, what more could you ask for than this?” Tora said to Kotaku, who posted both videos over the weekend. Even though it may be corny and nerdy, there’s no question after watching Tora’s reaction that Ben hit a home run with the idea, and the folks over at Gearbox must be feeling pretty good about the successful proposal as well: after all, they’ve all been invited to the wedding. Enjoy the videos!
