T-Mobile G2X Can Take Screenshots Out Of The Box

LG Builds In Cool Enthusiast Feature In G2X, Take Screenshots Without Third-Party App Or SDK, Does This Mean LG Is Listening To The Fans?]

There’s no default way to take screenshots on Android within the stock operating system. You either have to root the phone, and then install a third-party application, or you can take pictures via the SDK emulator. It’s particularly a problem for mobile phone reviews like me, who can’t root these loaner phones we get from carriers to take screenshots. Regardless, LG is introducing a sort of cool feature in the T-Mobile G2X – you’ll be able to take screenshots just by pressing the Power and Home buttons at the same time. Easy!

As aforementioned, this feature isn’t available on Android unless you have a rooted phone or are using the SDK. The guys at IntoMobile pointed out that this feature has been on the iOS operating system since iOS 2.0, yet, Android is missing out. Nice feature that LG has added here, dare we say one of the only good changes that a manufacturer has forced on Android.

Does this make the T-Mobile G2X a must have? No, not really, unless you have some fetish for Android screenshots and an aversion to rooting. But it’s a thoughtful move and, in my opinion, a sign that LG is serious about becoming an Android player. They said last year that they wanted to be a big boy in the Android space.

At CES this year, I was impressed with their three new Android superphones, the LG Revolution, LG Optimus 2X and LG Optimus Black. Their foresight with the screenshot system with the G2X shows to me that they’re at least thinking of the enthusiast community.
