BlackBerry Bold Touch To Be Only Thing Announced At BlackBerry World?
RIM’s annual expo, BlackBerry World, is the one time when the tech world is focused on them. So, you’d expect them to unveil a lot of new products, right? Well, tech blog rumors coming from reliable sources are saying that RIM is changing their plans at the last minute, and that just one phone will be unveiled. Is this a mistake on RIM’s part?

This years’ BlackBerry World will be held May 3rd-5th in Orlando, Florida. Just weeks away, and now the program may be changing from what was originally planned. Website BGR, who has been accurate with inside sources before, has reported to them that two different independent sources have both acknowledged that RIM is changing up their plan for the show. Instead of unveiling an alleged six major products, they’re just going to unveil the Bold Touch – the rumored traditional BlackBerry device with the touchscreen.
This decision has not gone over well with the tech blogs. BGR called the decision “plain stupid”. I think that’s assuming that what RIM was going to show was – you know – good. Instead, what we’ll see from RIM at BlackBerry World is probably just a renewed focus on the BlackBerry PlayBook. Early estimates say that the PlayBook is selling well, better than any Android tablet yet at 45,000 units sold in the first day.
Despite BlackBerrys having the reputation of being an “Old Man’s” phone, they have a dedicated developer community. I believe we’ll see RIM unveil the Bold Touch, then spend the rest of the show rallying the base for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Perhaps they’ll even announce a 3G/4G PlayBook coming to major carriers.
