iTunes Cuts Cloud Deal With Several Record Labels [Two Out Of Four Major Labels Reportedly Sign Deal With Apple's iTunes On Streaming]

Apple’s move to get cloud services introduced as part of iTunes is reportedly one step closer, as Apple’s making overtures to the big labels to get them on board with streaming services. Some reports have emerged showing that Apple has managed to ink deals with two of the four firms, but these reports are disputed by other reports which say the deals are merely in progress.

At last report, Apple was working on–and may well have succeeded in a couple quarters–deals that would allow Apple to provide music in cloud services, meaning that people would basically be allowed to buy a song on iTunes, secure it in an offsite storage facility, and then be able to access said facility from their device of choice, meaning they’d no longer need to carry music on their hard drives.

Meanwhile, further reports say that the actual work has been done, which means Apple is ready to start streaming music. The only real issue at this stage is whether or not Apple has any content legally available to it in which to stream in the first place, which is an issue of some contention. Reports place Apple’s Eddy Cue as being in New York pretty much right this second, working on the last deals with the outstanding major labels.

We don’t know which of the majors has agreed to sign on, as all the reports available say only a maximum of two of the four biggest labels–EMI, Universal Music Group, Sony, and Warner Music Group–have agreed to join in Apple’s cloud hunt.

These reports would put Apple currently out in front of its competitors Amazon, which released a cloud service but is reportedly having troubles with the labels over it, and Google, which is still having trouble with the negotiations, at last report.

So things are looking reasonably good for Apple, if the reports coming in are accurate, and you may have a lot more access to your music in the fairly near future.
