Gazelle to Sell 2nd Hand iPads Directly to Customers
The iPad 2 might be experiencing huge demand around the world, but there is still a market for the original iPad. Prior to the iPad 2 launch, several retailers ran buy-back programs for the iPad. They’re now starting to sell these used items.

Electronics reseller Gazelle ran a successful buy-back campaign for the original iPad, in which they gave customers store credits for buying the iPad 2. The original plan was to sell these used iPads through other retailers like Wal-Mart. Given their inventory, though, Gazelle has decided to just sell the items directly to customers. Gazelle says it’s able to sell the iPad for a lower price than if it were to sell via eBay or other retailers, although the company will have to tweak its operations to handle customer support and warranty.
The company says it has 15,000 to 17,000 iPads in stock, and is likely to sell these from $300 to $500 (depending on the model and condition). Gazelle says 90% of these are in near-mint or great condition. If you don’t think you need the additional features of the iPad 2–like the cameras and thinner design–or if you think you’re better off waiting for the iPad 2′s successor, then you might be able to save a lot of money buying a pre-owned iPad 2 from a reputable dealer like Gazelle.
