Amazon Kindle Now Available In Germany
A bit of good news for those in Germany who may have been hoping to pick up a Kindle reader or shop from the Kindle Store — the Amazon.de website has been updated and now includes the opportunity to make a purchase.

The news came short and sweet by way of the Amazon Facebook page who gave up the details a bit earlier this morning.
“Today, we’re excited to announce the Kindle Store launch on Amazon.de.”
The launch of the Germany Kindle Store comes with the opportunity to purchase the Kindle with Wi-Fi and the Kindle with 3G. In terms of pricing, they may not be what you would have expected or hoped to see. In other words, they seem to be priced a bit higher. The pricing comes as follows, 139 EUR for the Wi-Fi only version and 189 EUR for the 3G equipped model. And for those wondering, 139 EUR is roughly $200 US and the 189 EUR is roughly $275 US.
In terms of the ebooks, those are said to include ’71 of 100 Spiegel bestsellers” and “over 25,000 German-language titles and thousands of German classics.” And in addition to the ebooks and Kindle hardware, the Kindle mobile apps will also be available.
Otherwise, after spending some time on the Facebook page that offered this announcement, there is also some discussion of transferring a current Kindle (from a non-German store) to Amazon.de. Anyway, that comes with a warning in that you may lose some of your existing content.
“Your subscriptions on Amazon.com will be canceled upon transferring to Amazon.de. You will receive a pro-rated refund if there are any remaining issues you have already paid for. Please note that once your subscriptions have been canceled, you will not be able to access past issues. To keep past issues, please save them to your Kindle before transferring your Kindle account to Amazon.de. After transferring to Amazon.de, you may subscribe to the international selection of periodicals available on Amazon.de.”
And lastly, Amazon also noted that the “latest generation Kindle and Kindle 3G with English user interface can now be ordered from Amazon.de.”
