New SSX Developer Diary Takes A Closer Look At Level Design
When EA Sports revealed SSX: Deadly Descents last year during Spike’s Video Game Awards, gamers were introduced to a darker, more realistic take on snowboarding than we were used to from SSX. After more details about the game began to trickle out, it became apparent that the arcade style gameplay of past SSX titles was being toned down greatly in this new game, and that was something that didn’t sit too well with fans of the series.

After all, is it really an SSX title if you need to be concerned with surviving the mountain long enough to pull off tricks? No, you’re supposed to be able to come crashing down to the Earth after hurling yourself hundreds of feet in the air and then continue on toward the finish line as if you were Superman.
EA apparently heard these concerns, however, and has brought the reboot back to what made the PS2-era titles great. In order to show us that we’ll still be getting the SSX we know and love, EA Sports has started releasing developer diaries, the most recent of which taking an in-depth look at the reboot’s level design.
Nope, nothing gritty or even vaguely realistic about these monster half pipes or cascading canyons, which is exactly the way players want it. Enjoy the video!
