Motorola Droid Bionic Not Scrapped, Simply Postponed to Q3
A few days ago we heard of the possibility of the Droid Bionic being scrapped altogether. The phone, which is Verizon’s Atrix 4G version but with real 4G LTE capabilities, was introduced at CES 2011, and was supposed to be launched on May 12, according to a certain leaked Verizon document.

But that’s not going to happen anymore as Motorola will only launch the handset in the third quarter of the year or sometime this summer. The phone will get some enhancements that should make it “an even better consumer experience.” What are we to think here? Is Moto having problems with offering a competitive 4G LTE smartphone? Or should we assume that Motorola is taking a few extra months to regroup and still launch a hot Android smartphone before the iPhone 5 hits the streets.
The general consensus is that Apple will launch the iPhone 5 in late summer, so at least a couple of months later than expected. That means Motorola can improve the Droid Bionic, launch it at some point in summer and still get a few extra months of Bionic sales on the iPhone 5.
But maybe it’s not just about Apple’s iPhone 5 here and Motorola simply wants to improve various aspects of the Droid Bionic. After all the Atrix 4G was overshadowed by the Thunderbolt and was never declared a best-selling Android phone. So the Droid Bionic could use some improvement, at leas according to Motorola.
We can’t help but remember that the Thunderbolt was delayed over and over. And the Thunderbolt was for HTC just what the Bionic is for Motorola, a first LTE smartphone. That LTE technology, while certainly a much needed upgrade can also cripple our mobile experience considering that LTE basically eats through that battery faster than anything else. Or at least that’s what I hear. If it’s not the battery what else could it be? After all the Bionic is said to sport some amazing specs and features that should offer quite a pleasant smartphone experience.
So, Motorola Droid Bionic fans, you’ll have to wait at least a couple of more months to buy this smartphone. Anyone particularly annoyed by Moto’s move?
