16-Megapixel HTC Windows Phone 7 Camera Phone in the Works?

Uncovered Promo Video Suggests HTC Is Working on 16-Megapixel WP7 Smartphone

How many megapixels would you need from your smartphone in order to deem it a worthy point-and-shoot camera? Because it’s not all just in the megapixels you know, although it doesn’t hurt to have as many of them as possible on a camera, no matter if it’s a simple camera or a camera (smart)phone.

The word on the street right now is that HTC is planning a 16-megapixel Windows Phone 7 camera smartphone. We have no idea what HTC will call the device, but the phone has already been featured in a promo video that somehow found its way to the web (we have it embedded below too.)

It’s more than clear that we’re looking at a HTC smartphone, just check the logo and the overall shape of the device, and those three buttons there indicate that we’re in the presence of Windows Phone 7. The phone could be launched at some point later this year when we expect various manufacturers to come out with new WP7 handsets.

What we do know so far about this device is that it will offer a dual-core processor, at least that’s what Microsoft will force everyone to adopt in their next WP7 smartphones, a 16-megapixel shooter, dual LED flash and Windows Phone 7 under the hood.

The obvious rival for this 16-megapixel camera smartphone will most likely come from Nokia also later this year when we expect the giant Finnish smartphone manufacturer to announce its first WP7 handsets too. Because Nokia is also pretty good at overdoing mobile cameras in its smartphones.

The question is, will HTC include a similar shooter in its upcoming line of Android smartphones? The handset in the picture here looks awfully familiar and if I didn’t know any better (again, see the three buttons that have Windows all over them) I’d say I’m looking at some sort of an HTC Android creation.

Anyone out there really needing a 16-megapixel cameraphone?

When will manufacturers learn, APERTURE IS KEY!

Chances are if they are putting this much attention on the camera it is not just the number of pixels that is improved. But when you’re marketing to the public the easiest way to explain that your camera is of high quality is to talk about megapixels. While I’m sure this phone is no replacement for a DSLR, it probably is going to be noticeably better than the camera you’d expect to find on a typical HTC smartphone.

I would LOVE a 16 mpx camera. And HTC ? YEEESSSS. I hope its like the Evo with double the megapixels. :)
