Rumor: Nintendo HD Console Has Innards Similar To 360, Touchscreen Controller
Well, this week has certainly been one full of rumors. First we learned that Nintendo may be looking to cut the price of the Wii to $150, which hinted that something bigger may be around the corner. Then Game Informer broke the news of a possible HD console on the way from Nintendo. Now we may have some idea of what will be under the hood of this console, as well as what may be the successor to the Wii’s motion controllers.

According to French news site 01net, Nintendo’s new console is codenamed “Project Cafe” and will sport hardware that’s comparable to what’s inside the the Xbox 360. As well, Project Cafe’s controller is rumored to have a six-inch, single-input touch screen with a front mounted camera. The controller can be used as a Wii sensor bar, which not only confirms that this console will be backwards compatible (if it does indeed exist), but also seems to imply that Nintendo is looking to move away from the motion control technology that made the Wii such a big hit.
No other news at the moment, but expect more details to trickle out as we get closer to E3 2011. As well, mark your calendars for May 15th – the day Nintendo is supposedly planning to drop the price on the Wii – because with Nintendo refusing to comment on these rumors, a Wii price cut will likely be the single biggest indicator that we’re heading for the reveal of whatever Project Cafe is.
