Motorola Xoom With Wi-Fi Coming To Telus April 19th

Telus To Launch The Wi-Fi Only Motorola Xoom On April 19th, Will Launch Alongside The BlackBerry PlayBook & Sell For $599.99

The Wi-Fi only Motorola Xoom came available for those in Canada a short while back and it looks like it will soon be available with Telus. Yup, according to the latest chatter on the interwebs, Telus plans to launch the Honeycomb running Xoom on April 19th.

That said, and with a slight coincidence, April 19th is also the same day that Telus will launch the BlackBerry PlayBook. Otherwise, the Motorola Xoom will come with the familiar $599.99 price tag. And worth pointing out, the version of the Xoom that Telus will be selling is the Xoom with Wi-Fi. In other words, they are not offering a 3G or 4G Xoom. Of course, while that may sound a bit disappointing for some, the positive spin on that is there are no activation fees, no monthly data plan to pay for and no three year commitment.

Bottom line, whether you buy from Telus or from Best Buy or Future Shop — you are going to be getting the same exact device at the same exact price. Basically, there is not much reason to wait until Telus decides to finally offer if for sale on the 19th because you can already walk into a store (or shop online) and get the tablet today.

That aside though, the Motorola Xoom with Wi-Fi comes with features to include a 10.1 inch (1280 x 800) touchscreen display, dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 32GB of internal storage, (a still unusable) microSD card slot and is running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. In addition there is a rear facing 5 megapixel camera with flash, a front facing 2 megapixel camera for video chatting and overall measurements of 24.91 x 16.78 x 1.29cm.

And lastly, as for a 3G capable Xoom, that is expected to arrive in Canada sometime in the middle of the year, though at this point there is nothing more specific as to when.
