New Motorola Tablet Geared Toward Mobile Businesses

New Tablet In Development At Motorola Designed To Be Rugged And For Business

Some early notes have slipped out about a new tablet PC that Motorola is said to be working on, and this time, they’re going after the business market. The word is that this new tablet will be “rugged” and geared toward “enterprise” use.

The tablet in question–which is still so far in development that it doesn’t even have a proper name yet (though it does have at least a partial spec list!)–will be running the Gingerbread version of Android, and will be starting its beta testing run this October.

And what it’s set to offer is a pretty nice package: it’s set to offer a eight megapixel rear-facing camera (which is also set to reportedly handle barcode scanning as well), with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for videoconferencing functions, a dual-core OMAP 4 processor running at one GHz, a full gig of RAM, eight gigs NAND, a seven inch LCD display, Bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity, at least one USB port, and sufficient battery power for five and a half hours of streaming video.

Meanwhile, when they say rugged, well, I think Motorola means it. This tablet is set to be protected against dust, water (though not submersion from the look of it), extremes of temperature, and as much as a four foot drop. Not necessarily the most rugged thing I’ve ever seen, but definitely one of them.

We don’t have pricing and release data just yet on this since it’s not even set to start beta testing until October, as previously mentioned, but still, one thing is clear: this looks like the kind of tablet that, if you had to go out into the field, you would definitely want to have on hand with you as you went. Plenty of battery life, a good set of features (get it access to Android Market and it’s even better)…it’s hard to imagine what else could go into such a device. Definitely looking forward to seeing how the beta test results go this October.
