Nokia E6 Specs & Features Now Official; Shipping in Q2

Nokia Launches New BlackBerry-like Smartphone, the E6; Mixes Touchscreen With Full QWERTY Pleasures, Still Place Symbian Inside]

MWC 2011 is the place where Symbian officially died, or at least entered into a prolonged coma as Nokia and Microsoft were joined into a hopefully successful Windows Phone 7 partnership. But that didn’t stop the Finnish giant from updating its Symbian OS to “Anna” and from launching a new BlackBerry-like, business-oriented, smartphone called the Nokia E6.

The E6 is a direct successor of the E71, E72, E63 and E5 handsets but it’s meant to take your mobile smartphone experience to the next level by mixing both a full QWERTY keyboard with a touchscreen display. The E6 will be released at some point in Q2 but we have no pricing details for it just yet. What we can offer you are detailed specs and features for a handset that will have a somewhat difficult time fighting current smartphones out there:

  • 2.46-inch touchscreen LCD with VGA resolution (326ppi)
  • Symbian Anna OS
  • Penta-band WCDMA, quad-band GSM/EDGE
  • 8GB built-in memory; 32GB microSD upgrade support
  • 256MB RAM
  • 1GB ROM
  • 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash
  • HD 720p video capture at 25FPS
  • 1,500mAh battery with up to 31 days standby
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • GPS, aGPS
  • Micro-USB 2.0 support
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • full QWERTY keyboard
  • Business tools: Mail for Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint Server, QuickOffice, World Traveler, JoikuSpot Premium, F-Secure Mobile Security
  • Ovi Store support
  • Business grade security: device lock, device wipe, secure intranet access and device management, hardware-accelerated device encryption

Below you’ll find an official video of the handset in action, and while Nokia tries to advertise it as the compact smartphone a businessperson would need, I’ll beg to differ. I’m still a Nokia fan, but that doesn’t mean I would go for a smaller display, considering what’s out there even if the E6 does come with a full QWERTY keyboard. What’s impressive though is the battery life, which is something I’d like to see in other modern smartphones.

What about you, folks? Would you buy the E6 when it comes out this spring?
