HTC Thunderbolt & EVO 4G Gingerbread Updates Confirmed for End of Q2, At the Latest
The race for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread is still on, and, except for Samsung’s Google Nexus S, no other hot smartphone out there has been yet blessed with Google’s latest Android version. The HTC Thunderbolt, one of the high-end Android handsets available in stores, and the only one LTE-compatible in the USA, is one such device.

We previously heard that the Thunderbolt will get Gingerbread at some point in the second quarter of the year, and now we see another confirmation of that fact. Besides the Thunderbolt, the HTC EVO 4G will also be upgraded to Android 2.3 at the same time, according to a very recent HTC customer support email answer:
Good question, Derek! We understand how important it is to have the latest updates for your device.
I’m happy to inform you that both the Evo and the Thunderbolt are definitely on our list to receive the 2.3 Android OS update. At this time, we don’t have an exact launch date, nor are we . However, we estimate that it will be available in the second quarter of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June), assuming that there are no major setbacks. Once we have a better idea of when this update will be available for your phone, we’ll be sure to announce it through Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/htc) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/htc), and of course, HTC.com.
We’re not aware of any immediate plans for a tablet for the Verizon network. However, The Evo View will also have a wi-fi only version that you will be able to purchase through Best Buy.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us, Derek.

We’re already on our way to the middle of April, and neither Verizon nor Sprint appear to be ready to roll out Android 2.3 updates for the Thunderbolt and EVO 4G, respectively, so we’ll certainly keep tabs on this matter for you.
