iPad 2 Jailbreak (iOS 4.3.1) Coming Soon?

iOS 4.3.1 has already been jailbroken, the untethered way, but the procedure is not yet available to iPad 2 owners. Anyone else using an iOS 4.3.1 device can jailbreak their favorite gadget using PwnageTool or Redsn0w, but iPad 2 owners still have to wait.

Although the iPad 2 was not jailbreakable out of the box, the tablet was hacked a day after the actual in-store launch. And while Apple was said to patch the initial iPad 2 jailbreak exploits (which were not made available to the public yet) it looks like iPad 2 tablets running iOS 4.3.1 will be jailbreakable soon. According to a recent tweet from Joshua Hill (@p0sixninja from the Chronic Dev Team) the iPad 2 jailbreak will soon be made official:

Since 4.3.1 is already exploited by the legendary @i0n1c, we’re working on finishing iPad2 jailbreak now.

The Chronic Dev Team has not provided any launch dates yet but we should assume a jailbreak tool will be available in the near future to hack Apple’s latest tablet.

At the same time word on the street is that Apple will patch current iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak security exploits in a couple of weeks once iOS 4.3.2 becomes available. As soon as Apple releases iOS 4.3.2 we can assume that the following iPad 2 batches will run iOS 4.3.2, and the iPad 2 jailbreak could be blocked, at least for a while. So getting yourself an iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.1 on board right now might be a good idea.

Not that we’d advise you, at any point in time, to go for such procedures – jailbreaking, unlocking and rooting – especially if your intentions are not honorable. But since such procedures are legal, at least in some parts of the world, we’ll surely keep you updated on their development. Mind you though, iPad 2 warranties might be void in the process, so think twice before jailbreaking.
