Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi Gets a Slight Price Drop in the UK; is the iPad 2 to Blame?

UK Motorola Xoom to Cost £479.99, £20 Less than Initially Expected; Release Date Pegged for April 9

The Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi model is still not available in stores in the UK but it already looks like Motorola and its partners are willing to sell it for less than what we initially expected.

Retailer Dixon offers its customers the Xoom Wi-Fi for £479.99, which is £20 less than the previously advertised price. The tablet is expected to start shipping on or around April 9, or next Saturday, so Android tablet fans should start lining up their cash immediately for their next tablet purchase.

Naturally we suspect it’s Apple’s second tablet to blame for the slight price drop of the Xoom. The iPad 2 came out in March, both in the USA and in 25 other markets, including the UK, showing the same pricing scheme we’ve gotten used to for the last year or so.

The 32GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi, which happens to be the direct competitor of the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi, costs £479, and that explains the Xoom Wi-Fi £20 price drop we witnessed today. But while the Xoom might be launched at some point next Saturday the iPad 2 will only be shipped at some point in the following 2-3 weeks, no matter what model or color you would select.

As for the specs and features of the Xoom Wi-Fi, well, the Wi-Fi tablet is exactly similar to the Xoom 3G, with the only missing feature being that 3G/4G radio. In fact here’s our Motorola Xoom review that should help you decide whether to go for an Android Honeycomb tablet right away or stick it with Apple’s next-gen iOS tablet for one more year.

While we’re at it, let us know how you feel about the Xoom. Would you recommend it to your friends or would you swap it with an iPad 2?
