Extremely Limited Quantity Of GTX 590 Graphics Cards Launched
Where you hoping to get your hands on NVIDIA’s new $700 GeForce GTX 590 “halo card”? If you haven’t gotten one already, you may be waiting awhile. Hardware rumors site Fudzilla is reporting that less than 10,000 units of the GeForce GTX 590 were released into the US and European markets, which is causing some short supplies in the United States, where the price is more competitive.

It seems that in Europe, especially in the German-speaking countries, you can find a GTX 590 if you want one. The GTX 590 has been getting similar performance to the AMD Radeon HD 6990, yet in Europe, it was priced much higher, almost €100 more than the Radeon HD 6990. Although, we hear that European retailers have been slashing the prices of their GTX 590s in order to let them compete with the HD 6990.
In America, the GTX 590 came out at $700 for the stock model from ASUS and at $730 for the limited edition overclocked model from EVGA. At those prices, it was actually a bit cheaper than the AMD Radeon HD 6990, which was selling for $720-750 when the GTX 590 came out. So, if the US and Europe got a few thousand units between them, and in the US it was cheaper than the HD 6990, it isn’t crazy to see them sell out.
Generally, the GTX 590 (and the Radeon HD 6990 for that matter) is a “halo card” meaning, it’s more a show of NVIDIA’s might. It’ll be super expensive, and crazy people like me will buy one, but they aren’t expecting to sell mass quantities of them. Unfortunately, for people like us who are in the market for them, we’ll be waiting for a bit.
