Verizon Quietly Retires Droid Incredible [Droid Incredible Gets End Of Life Status, Disappears From Verizon Website, Stores Said To Be Selling Out Last Of Their Stock]

Do you remember all the excitement over the Droid Incredible when it first came out on Verizon’s network? It had a big OLED screen and a fast 1GHz processor and it was sold out everywhere. That was almost a year ago, and now the device has been retired. Yep, Verizon has put the phone on “End of Life” status. It’s disappeared from their website and local Verizon retail stores will be selling through their stock of the phones and not replenishing them.

Verizon is retiring the Droid Incredible, but they still have a huge stable of Android phones, and are probably clearing out the Droid Incredible to make room for all their other, newer phones. At CES and MWC this year, we saw them unveil a batch of new 4G phones, and the HTC Thunderbolt is already out. And they already have an amble amount of cheaper, low-end phones that are probably cheaper than the Droid Incredible and can fill that role better.

But, at MWC this year, we saw HTC introduce the “Incredible S” an updated version of the Incredible for overseas markets. And there’s already talk that we could see the Incredible S come to Verizon as the “Incredible 2″ or something.

In case you missed the Droid Incredible craze – rumors started surfacing about the device just after the first Motorola Droid was released in November 2009. It came out in April 2010, and caused a stir in the tech blog world and the thing was sold out across the nation for weeks. Verizon went on to blame HTC and an OLED shortage for limiting how many they actually ended up selling during the initial craze for the device.

Anyway, is it sad to see the old Droid Incredible go?
