Roku XD Now Available With Best Buy

While it was never all that hard to buy a Roku set top box, in the past a purchase meant doing your shopping online and waiting for a delivery. Or for those (like myself) with slightly less patience — paying for overnight delivery in order to get it quickly.

That said, you can now head on down to your nearest Best Buy retail location and pick one up in person.

“Roku, Inc., maker of the best-selling and award-winning Roku streaming player, announced today that its Roku XD player is available for purchase at Best Buy stores nationwide and at BestBuy.com.”

With that comes the good and not so good, as you can see the Roku will be available in store and also online — that was the good. And for the not so good, the only model that is available is the middle of the line Roku XD which retails for $79.99. Granted, that is probably the most popular model, but it still leaves those looking for the $59.99 Roku HD or the $99.99 Roku XD|S to shop online.

Anyway, in terms of the Roku XD, this model has support for 720p and 1080p video quality, as well as the “enhanced” remote, HDMI connectivity, composite connectivity, Ethernet and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. And as far as what it is missing as compared to the more expensive model, the Roku XD does not have the USB port, component video and optical audio or the dual-band wireless.

Otherwise, the Roku set top boxes are probably best known for their Netflix support, however they also have a wide variety of other channels available. Some of those other channels (or at least the ones that I use and watch) include Hulu Plus, TWiT, Revision 3 and Rdio. And then there is also the Amazon Video on Demand channel for those looking to rent movies as well as NBA Game Time, NHL GameCenter Live, Pandora, MP3tunes, MOG and many more.

Lastly, in addition to Best Buy, “select Roku players” will also be available at BJ’s Wholesale Club, Fry’s Electronics and RadioShack.
