Motorola Droid X & Droid 2 Gingerbread Updates Out in the Wild, Unofficially
We expected the Motorola Droid X to receive its official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update last Sunday but that didn’t happen. The word on the street was that Verizon isn’t happy with the current Gingerbread build, although we have no confirmation on that rumor. What we do have for Droid X and Droid 2 owners is an unofficial Gingerbread ROM that is available to install on your favorite phone right now.

Like always we’d advise against going for an unofficial update, even if you’re entitled to do whatever your heart desires to your device. We doubly advise against going for an unofficial Gingerbread upgrade if you’re not completely comfortable with going through the necessary steps yourself. The race for upgrading current Android phones, especially the flagship devices, to Android 2.3 is on and we can only expect Verizon to offer the update in the very near future.
My Droid World has all the instructions for the installation of your unofficial Android 2.3 build, so follow them closely.
