MetroPCS Announces The Huawei Ascend "Sanctioned By TapouT" Android Smartphone

Huawei Ascend Now Available With MetroPCS, Brings 3.5" Display, 3.2MP Camera, Android 2.1 & A Contract Free Price Of $129

MetroPCS has officially announced their latest Android offering, the handset is the Huawei Ascend and it comes “Sanctioned by TapouT.” In other words, the Ascend smartphone was designed in partnership with the mixed martial arts (MMA) brand TapouT.

But that aside, as with other MetroPCS offerings the Ascend comes pre-paid and fairly priced. The Ascend is $129 and can be used with the $50 per month pay as you go plan which offers unlimited local and long distance calling as well as unlimited messaging, email and data.

In terms of the features of the handset, the Huawei Ascend will arrive sporting a 3.5 inch HVGA touchscreen display, 256MB internal memory, 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 1500 mAh battery and a microSD card slot with a 2GB memory card included. In addition, the Ascend is running Android 2.2 Froyo (according to the press release). Otherwise, the Ascend measures in at 4.57 x 2.44 x 0.55 inches and weighs 4.76 ounces.

Aside from the hardware (and software) specs of the Ascend, there are also some extra goodies included by way of the “Sanctioned by TapouT” branding.

Finished in high gloss black with matte black casing, the Huawei Ascend Sanctioned by TapouT features the iconic TapouT logo emblazoned on the back of both covers, one in tonal black and the other in dark grey with the cage graphic frequently seen on TapouT merchandise.

And lastly, the handset ships with two interchangeable backs as well as a “full content suite” that includes 10 virtual training center videos, 12 static wallpapers, 5 live wallpapers and a new TapouT application that is available exclusively on the Ascend.

Bottom line, this may not be the highest end Android device, in fact it is billed as entry level but that aside it should be a nice device for those who want a decent priced pay as you go offering and most important — are MMA fans.
