LA Noire To Join Lineup At Tribeca Film Festival
After seeing the trailers for the upcoming L.A. Noire, I got to thinking that it was downright cinematic. If someone had told me that it was a movie instead of a game, I likely would have believed it. But now, the game that could be mistaken for a movie just got a little extra support in that department–it will be playing out at the Tribeca Film Festival.

You might be wondering, just how does a game get played as part of a film festival? Believe me, I asked the same question myself when I first saw the news, but here’s the rundown. Basically, they’ll be doing a “live interactive showing” of a case from L.A. Noire, and then, following that live interactive showing, they’ll have a Q&A panel ready to go, with some talks on the rapid blurring of the line between movies and video games. It will be part of the “Tribeca Talks” series, so it’s not like they’re getting in the main show or anything, but still.
But still indeed–this is the first time, ever, that a game has been part of the Tribeca Film Festival, and it only underscores the critical point that games are becoming a lot more engrossing, complex, and difficult to produce. Stop and think about it for a minute–it took maybe ten years to go from Super Mario Brothers to Resident Evil. And then a little over ten to go from Resident Evil to Alan Wake. Now here we are looking at L.A. Noire in the Tribeca Film Festival.
It’s an exciting time to be a gamer, no mistake there, and if you want to catch L.A. Noire at Tribeca, better get to it, because tickets will go on sale starting April 18th. You’ll pay $25 for a ticket, and the screening lasts an hour with the Q&A to follow for 45 minutes thereafter.
