Casio Debuts Twelve New Projectors [A Variety of DLP Projectors With A Variety Of Features Lands All At Once From The Folks At Casio]
Nothing like dropping a big old hunk of raw news right in our laps, and that’s just what the folks out at Casio did today with their announcement of–get this!–fully 12 new DLP projectors coming soon, starting in Japan. And now, I’ll break it down into a more usable format for you guys.

The big deal here is that they’re all DLP projectors, which is actually something of a rarity (most projectors run either LCD or LED–DLP is considered something of a specialist tool, and you don’t often see DLP available outside of Mitsubishi, at least I haven’t come in contact with a lot of DLP that isn’t Mitsubishi) in the projector market.
They’ll be spacing out the release fairly gradually, starting with eight so-called “standard” models in May, and then bringing out the remaining four–both equally specialist tools, including two short throw projectors and two devices called “high end” two months later in July. Both start dates are in Japan, and hopefully there will be a wider release to follow.
These projectors all look to run at brightnesses between 2500 and 3500 lumens, which is pretty bright, and most will show in 1024 x 768. Two, however, will step it up to 1200 x 800, which is a slight but significant difference. They can all produce 3D images, offer Intelligent Brightness control and a variety of connection options.
Though without question, the big deal in the lot is the so-called XJ-H1650, which will offer the most options of any of the line, including an interactive pointer system, the top brightness of 3500 lumens (though interestingly, this will be one of the six displaying at 1024 x 768), wi-fi capability, an Ethernet jack, an HDMI port and a USB port.
The prices are currently listed as “open”, but word is that they’ll start at $1200 each, and that XJ-H1650 we talked about will retail for better than double that at $2800.
I don’t know about you, folks, but I don’t usually think of Casio when I think of home entertainment, but with projectors like these due to hit I may just have to start.
