If you don’t have a girlfriend, you can at least pretend to have one and interact with “her” on social networks. A new startup, Cloud Girlfriend, will help you climb up the social ladder with a pretend girlfriend who talks back.

Being in a relationship with someone can be fun (although it has its downsides). You get to be lovey-dovey with someone on your Facebook and Twitter profiles or on your blog. But if you don’t have a real person to love, then that’s just sad. But some people think they can help you with that.

Cloud Girlfriend is just that–your girlfriend in the cloud. This new startup will create a profile of a seemingly real person for you, whom you can interact with on your social networks. You can then tell all your friends that you do have a girlfriend, and that she lives in some exotic place in another country where all the ladies are beautiful.

The site is on private beta, though, and invitations are said to be limited. Either there are a lot of lonely guys out there, or the “high demand” claim is making a virtual girlfriend even more desirable.
