Verizon Reportedly Selling Original iPad At $299 [Prices On Original iPads Range From $299 to $499 Depending On Storage Capability At Verizon, According To Reports]
If you’re a little bit behind the curve vis-a-vis the whole tablet PC thing, you may be getting a prime opportunity to get in on the ground floor. The very ground floor, specifically–seems the folks out at Verizon are putting up original iPads for surprisingly hefty discounts, as little as $299 for the original 16 gig wi-fi only model.

Of course, the price tags reportedly go up from there, to include the 32 gig model at $399 and the 64 gig model at $499, but that’s still a pretty fair price considering what the iPad 2 is going for, if you can even get it at this stage of the game.
And that’s even a better deal than a lot of used iPads are going for; taking a look out at Amazon and eBay says that they’re going for about what Verizon is asking for new ones. Naturally your mileage will vary on that front, because there are just as many places to sell used goods as there are people looking to buy them.
It probably won’t surprise anyone to find, though, that there are almost as many reports of Verizon being sold out of those dirt cheap iPads as there are reports of dirt cheap iPads in the first place. Considering the prices they’re looking to sell these at it’s not at all surprising to see them fly off the shelves.
But this raises an interesting point–we all know that iPad 2 models went flying off the shelves, and the original iPads went on a similar flight. So why are iPads selling so well when iPad 2 models are available? Were there a lot of folks who waited to get their hands on an original iPad until the second version to take advantage of deep discounting? Did their original versions break? It’s a strange dichotomy that original iPads are moving almost as rapidly as new iPads, but one thing’s for sure–if it’s got Apple stamped on it, it’s not sticking around long.
