TripAdvisor Email Addresses Stolen

Popular Travel & City Guide Warns Users Against Spam & Social Engineering Attacks

If you travel often, TripAdvisor would be one good resource for checking out hotels, restaurants, resorts and destinations. Users might have to be on guard for spam, though.

TripAdvisor has recently send warnings to users that its email database has been compromised. While TripAdvisor has already identified the vulnerability and has shut it down, the damage has been done. A portion of its user email address database has been stolen.

TripAdvisor says that no sensitive nor financial information was stolen, though, which includes passwords or credit card details.

Users are warned to expect more spam (as if we don’t get enough), and possibly even social engineering attacks. This will mean added vigilance against emails asking for user details, passwords or even credit card details will need to be enforced.

Whether you’re  a TripAdvisor user or not, it’s a good idea to scrutinize emails before clicking on links or opening attachments, as a general rule.
