Comcast Shows Third Version of Xfinity

Comcast's Xfinity App on iOS Gets Some Significant Upgrades In Content And Customizations

Comcast subscribers are going to get a little extra punch if they’re also iOS users–you’ll be able to get a lot more out of your iPad and iPhone with the release of the third version of Comcast’s Xfinity App. Several big changes have been made, some you’ll notice right away, and others you won’t catch on to until you’ve been using the app a while.

The most noticeable difference between the old versions and new will be the addition of streaming content from fairly major names like IFC (the Independent Film Channel, in case you’re not familiar), Adult Swim (the late-night content arm of Cartoon Network) the BBC and more besides. And while you’ll no doubt notice the extra programming available right off, the biggest difference–and it will likely take you a while to find it–is the new customization options.

You’ll get a new kind of channel keypad to make quick changes if you’re using it as a remote, as well as the ability to rapidly move through listings to find all the stuf you want. It’s now capable of syncing up with the XfinityTV website besides. And here’s the extra happy part–if you’ve got an iPhone, it’s getting a big upgrade itself. Specifically, iPhone users will now be able to use a “flip through previous channels” option that was previously only available to iPad users.

And while all of this is profoundly happy news for the iPad and iPhone users out there, it remains to be seen when the Android folks, who recently got their own Xfinity version, will manage to get in on some of these happy updates of their own. And of course, many Comcast customers are no doubt wondering when they’ll match up with Time Warner, and get into live streaming. It doesn’t help that the TV networks hate the whole streaming idea like fire, so the delays will probably be extensive.

Still though, once you start the parade of upgrades, it’s really only a matter of time until they all hit.
