Sports Tracker Fitness App Announced For Android & iOS [Previously For Symbian Only, The Sports Tracker App Will Be Coming To the iPhone & Android]

A rising category for apps is dealing with fitness, sure there are a few quality offerings already available for the iPhone and Android, one that comes to mind is the one that I currently use — Runkeeper. That said, it is always nice to see some competition, both in the form of existing apps and new to the platform apps.

Anyway, this app is falling into the new to the platform category for both iOS and Android. The app is called Sports Tracker and comes courtesy of Sports Tracking Technologies. As to the new to the platform statement, the Sports Tracker app has actually been around for several years. It was first introduced by Nokia back in 2007 and as you likely guessed — it was available for Symbian devices.

Well, things changed over the years and in 2009 the app went from a Nokia backed app to the present company — Sports Tracking Technologies. Well, flash forward a few years since they have had the app and now it has been announced for both Android and iOS.

According to the details given, which are still a bit on the light side, the apps are in their “final stages of development and will head to final testing soon.” Given that, and assuming no major issues crop up, it sounds like they will be available in the iOS App Store and the Android Market soon enough.

And while we cannot claim to be long time fans of the Sports Tracker app, based on the provided screenshots it does appear to look rather nice. Of course, aside from looks, the way it runs is probably more important. You know, no crashing. Otherwise, it appears to have the features that one would want and/or need such as duration, distance, speed, average pace/speed, altitude, max speed and more. There is also sharing ability, which works with their built in community as well as Facebook and Twitter.

Lastly, just to show they have some real-world experience, the Sports Tracker app is noted as having tracked “over 70 million km tracked in more than 200 countries in less than a year on Nokia Symbian devices.”
