Microsoft Releases “Where’s My Phone Update?” Website Detailing WP7 Update Process [Latest Microsoft Website Details WP7 Update Process For February & March Updates]

A big question for smartphone users these days deals with updates and when they are arriving. We frequently see this with Android users, but Windows Phone 7, iOS and others are not immune in any way. As it turns out, the Windows Phone 7 updates are a little bigger of a question about now.

That said, Microsoft has recently launched two additions to their website, an US based and an International based page that answers one question — Where’s my phone update? As mentioned, the pages are broken down by either US and International and then more specifically by phone model and then the “February update” and the “March update.”

In terms of the US, things are fairly simple — there are six handsets on the schedule and they are sitting in a mix of not applicable, scheduling and testing.

  • Dell Venue Pro – Scheduling for both the February and March update
  • HTC Arrive – Not applicable for both the February and March update
  • HTC HD7 – Scheduling for both the February and March update
  • HTC Surround – Testing for both the February and March update
  • LG Quantum – Testing for both the February and March update
  • Samsung Focus – Testing for both the February and March update

Of course, in the case of the HTC Arrive (on Sprint), this is a new Windows Phone and it will actually ship with both of those updates already in place.

In terms of the International page, lets just say that given the additional carriers and countries — the list is a bit more involved. With that, if you are in Austria, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden or the UK you can click over (link above) to find your model and your carrier. And if all else fails, there is also a more general “Global” section which breaks down by carriers to include the Vodafone Group, Deutsche Telecom, Orange Group, Open Market Phones and All Other Operators.

And lastly, breaking down the Testing, Scheduling and Delivering portions a little bit further. According to Microsoft they are as follows;

Stage 1: Testing
The software update is undergoing mobile operator network and quality tests.

Stage 2: Scheduling
Operator testing is complete, and Microsoft is scheduling the update for delivery. This phase typically lasts 10 days or less.

Stage 3: Delivering update
Microsoft has started to send out the update. Because updates are typically delivered to customers in batches, it might take several weeks before you receive notice that an update is available for you.
