Duke Nukem Forever Delayed Again, No Joke
Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Gearbox Software, the new developers of Duke Nukem Forever, have announced via press release and YouTube video that Duke Nukem Forever, the game that has been stuck in development hell for over 15 years – is delayed again. Yep. “The Duke Never Comes Early” is the phrase that’s being repeated by Take-Two and Gearbox Software in association with the delay. While the game was set to be released on May 3rd in the United States and May 6th worldwide, it’s now been delayed roughly one month, to a June 10th (international)/June 14th (US) release date.

If you’ve been living under a rock and never logged onto the internet in the past 15 years, then you wouldn’t know that Duke Nukem Forever is the long-since anticipated sequel to 1996′s Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem 3D won fans for its blue humor and the fact that it was probably the first shooter better than the original Doom. DNF was delayed constantly and became a running joke in the video game community before the IP was purchased outright by Gearbox Software (of Borderlands fame).
Gearbox had been promising that they would finally see “The Duke” out the door, but the game looks to have gotten a last minute delay.
2K Games President Christoph Hartmann said in the statement:
In case you haven’t heard, Duke never comes early. We’re committed to deliver a laugh-out-loud, politically incorrect experience that people will talk about for years to come. We thank Duke’s fans for their continued patience – I promise this won’t take another 15 years.
Gearbox President Randy Pitchford said in the press release:
I’m very sorry for the added delay. We’ve all been working extremely hard and are very eager to deliver the game to you. I’ve been thinking of these lyrics from the great country song, ‘He’s The Duke’ – ‘He told us if we waited we could Come Get Some, but I never knew Forever was going to be so long.’ If you’re like me, June cannot come quickly enough.
Of course, the irony of a game that’s been delayed 15 years being delayed another month is too sweet for some people.
