Steve Jobs: We Have "No Plans" To Kill iPod Classic
Even though the huge, hard drive-based iPod “classic” was probably the first iPod many of us owned, it’s sort of been shunted to the back of the class. I mean, the iPod Touch is like a cheap iPhone (sans Phone) and the iPod Nano is cheaper and has plenty of storage. And the iPad Shuffle is perfect for those who are really watching the bottom line. So, where does the iPad Classic stack up? Don’t worry, it’s not going anywhere. That’s what Steve Jobs said to a “classic” fan in an email.

It’s worth noting here that this an “alleged” email. MacRumors believes it to be real, but we have no way of knowing if this email is really from sjobs@apple.com or a fake. Regardless, here’s what the alleged e-mail exchange is:
Fan: Hello, I’ve heard a LOT of speculation that Apple is looking to kill the iPod Classic because it wasn’t updated on Sept. 1st, and that a lot of people would rather Touch. The iPod Classic is probably the best iPod in the line. PLEASE DON’T KILL IT!!!
Jobs: We have no plans to.

Apple currently offers just the iPod Classic in just one size – 160GB, which is a lot compared to the sizes the offer on the iPod Nano – and even on the iOS products (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch). They can get away with it because the iPad Classic has a little hard drive, while all the other products use flash (NAND) memory.
Apple hasn’t even bothered updating the iPod Classic in recent product revisions, and I’d be that Apple doesn’t even bother have engineers working on new revisions of the MP3 player anymore. But, you have El Jobs word that Apple has no plans to axe the fat iPods.
If interested, the iPod Classic is still on sale at Apple.com for $249. It comes with the 160GB of space and comes in either black or white.

I love the iPod Classic. It’s really the only the iPod you can operate without looking at it. It’s easy to operate while driving, walking, running.
