Geohot Allegedly Runs To South America To Hide From Sony [Sony Claims That PS3 Hacker George Hotz Has Fled The Country To South America, Hiding From The Long Arm Of The Law]

George “Geohot” Hotz is on the run. That’s what Sony and their legal team is claiming in documents filed with the US District Court of Northern California. In statements filed with the court, Sony’s legal team alleges that Geohot is in South America, trying to stall on giving Sony some hard drives. They also claim that Geohot has “engaged in a campaign to thwart jurisdictional discovery at every turn.”

George Hotz came to internet celebrity a few years back when he was the first guy to jailbreak the original iPhone. More recently, he did work on gaining hypervisor access to the PlayStation 3 and also released root keys for the system to the public. This contributed to others releasing “jailbreaks” for the PlayStation 3. Sony, as they are one to do, is taking this very seriously and has been engaging in a legal campaign against Hotz.

Sony is now alleging that Hotz is trying to hold up the process by running to South America and also intentionally damaging the hard drives he was ordered to hand over. Sony writes in the statement:

[Over] the last several weeks. Hotz has engaged in a campaign to thwart jurisdictional discovery at every turn –regardless of whether the Court has ordered such discovery or not. Most seriously, after Magistrate Judge Spero ordered an inspection of Hotz’s devices and ordered Hotz to appear at a deposition in California, SCEA learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and that Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral. Hotz’s attempts to dodge this Court’s authority raise very serious questions.

Sony goes on to say that when the neutral forensic hard drive company (TIG) and Sony attempted to contact Hotz’ legal team about the missing “hard drive components”, they were told that he was in South America.

Is George hiding out in Argentina trying to avoid legal trouble? Or just a vacation? What do you think about this? Give us your take in the comments section.
