Sprint Announces Google Voice Integration for All CDMA Phones

Sprint Google Voice Integration Means Keeping Your Phone Number & Still Using All Google Voice Features

It looks like things are going to get that much nicer for those using Google Voice with Sprint. Or maybe more accurately, those who have wanted to use Google Voice and did not want to change and/or port their number. Yup, Sprint has officially announced the rumored Google Voice integration.

Except the actual news is a bit better than the rumors because it means this integration will be available all CDMA phones as opposed to just Android phones. With that, the short version of this story is that you will be able to use your current Sprint number as your Google Voice number — hence the no changing and/or porting. Alternatively, for those who may already have a Google Voice number that they like — those users will be able to have that become their Sprint number.

And now for the disappointing part, the Sprint Google Voice integration is not yet available, and similar to many other announcements of this kind — it was given as a general “soon.”

That aside though, one of the perks about keeping your current Google Voice number means that your number will now be displayed when you make any outgoing calls or send any messages from your phone. Which in the past was only able to be done on select phones (Android) that were able to run a Google Voice app.

Otherwise, for those not as familiar with Google Voice, lets just say it like this — there are a ton of features to list here. In other words, its worth at least giving a look or two. That said, some of my favorites include voicemail that can be checked on the phone and on the web as having it transcribed and sent by email. Another nice option is to have your SMS messages sent to your email. Plus, how can you forget the ability to manage who can call and who gets direct access as well as be able to block calls for those you don’t want to hear from.
