Nintendo 3DS Is The Most Pre-ordered Console Ever On Amazon UK

Although the Nintendo 3DS is already out in Japan, the handheld is coming out in the Western countries in just a few weeks or so and excitement about the 3D handheld is starting to pick up. Case in point, Amazon UK has announced that the Nintendo 3DS is the most pre-ordered console of all-time on their site, besting the record that the PS3 previously held. They’ve also slashed the price of the 3DS by £43 – making it one of the cheapest places in the UK to get the Nintendo 3DS.

The PAL version of the PlayStation 3 was released in the UK in March 2007, and that console had previously been the most pre-ordered console in the history of Amazon UK. Now, the 3DS has bested it by 20%. And it may not even stop there as they’ve cut the price down to £187. That will tie Amazon UK with retailer Morrisons as the cheapest place to buy the Nintendo 3DS in Britain.

Amazon UK’s director of video games Chris Poad said to MCVUK:

It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch. Such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the Nintendo Wii and last year’s Xbox 360 Kinect. Nintendo 3DS is launching at a time when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high, and with the promise of real 3D graphics without glasses, it’s a real breakthrough in handheld video game entertainment.

According to Amazon UK, here’s the top five list of their most pre-ordered consoles:

1. Nintendo 3DS
2. Sony PlayStation 3
3. Nintendo Wii
4. Microsoft Kinect (for Xbox 360)
5. PlayStation Move (for PlayStation 3)
