Apple Sets Up Donation Program For Original iPad

Want Your Old iPad To Do Some Good? Donate It To Teach For America Via Apple Stores

If you’re one of the many, many people who bought a new iPad 2 during the big iPad 2 release, then you may be wondering just what you’re going to do with the old one. Some will likely keep it as a backup, or give it away to friends or family, or even sell it in a bid to cut the costs of buying new. But for those of you who want your old iPad to do some good, Apple’s set up a program with you in mind.

Basically, what you do is take your original iPad, and go to your nearest Apple Store. Then you tell them you want to donate it for the Teach For America program, and they’ll do the rest. There’s no word from either Apple or Teach For America if your donation is tax-deductible, so you’ll want to check ahead if you’re looking to make the donation for that reason.

And once you’ve done that, your old iPad will be sent off to a classroom in a low-income school district, who’s probably hurting for a little dose of the high technology in the current environment of constant cutbacks.

And if you’ve been using an iPad for any length of time, you probably already know full well just how valuable such a tool can be in the right hands. A public school system, who doesn’t often have all that many tools in their belt to begin with, would almost certainly make good use of your old iPad. Of course, considering how much your iPad cost new, and how much the new ones will cost, probably most will go the route that involves getting some extra cash to put toward a new one, and frankly, I can’t blame them. But still, doing good often pays dividends in ways you can’t immediately see, so if you’ve got an old iPad, consider the donation route. It’ll likely do at least a couple somebodies a world of good.
