No iPads At Some AT&T & Verizon Stores?

Reports Say That Two iPad Carriers May Not Have The Biggest Apple iPad, Or Any iPads At All

The iPad 2 came out today, and per usual, people stood in line, they sold out, there’s a 3 week wait on Apple.com, etc. In general, nothing new for an Apple product launch. Earlier today, we told you about the best places to buy the iPad 2, but now it’s being reported that two of the places we told you about – AT&T stores and Verizon stores – may not have a complete selection or may not have any iPads at all.

AT&T has confirmed to the media that their local AT&T stores are not carrying any 64GB models of the iPad 2. I guess they just don’t figure it’s worth the effort of stocking it, considering the excess cost of the 64GB. ($829 – come on!) On the other side of the fence, Verizon stores are said to be carrying all sizes of the iPad 2 – but some Verizon stores reportedly aren’t carrying any iPads at at all. That hasn’t been confirmed by Verizon yet – but seems certainly odd.

Also on the “weird availability” list the report that some local Apple Stores aren’t carrying Verizon (CDMA) iPads. Can’t be a high point for Verizon folks, considering that they had to sell the iPad 1 bundle with MiFi hubs in order to get them to work on their network.

Did you get an iPad 2? How did you fair today? Tell us about it in the comments and any strange availability stories you may have found while you were out hunting for your iPad today.

went to at&t store on 6th ave/54th @5h30pm yesterday. store almost empty. i asked about ipad2. they told me they sold out. “how many did u have”, says I. “6″ says the at&t rep. It’s easy to sell out when you only have 6. Bit of a joke really. It will be interesting to see stock levels today

I went to a Target store in a Dallas,Texas suburb at 3:45 and was third in line. One guy in line told me they had only 5, all 16GB WIFI only, one per customer. That same guy told me he had checked out several targets through the day and all of them only had five units each. Funny thing is I had my three year old son with me and tried to count him and buy two but the target guy would have none of that, age discrimination, but I decided not to lower myself and let it go. I ended up buying just the one 16GB WIFI. The guy who was first in line gave a lady 50 bucks to buy a second one for him, the first one was for his wife’s birthday which was that day. The man had also just had surgery to remove a skin cancer from his face very close to his eye. It was like one of those old weepy AT&T reach out commercials down at the target. Also talked to a friend who went to best buy. He thinks they had about 50 of each model. He was about 60 in line and when he got there the last wifi only was a 64 GB. He passed cause he didn’t want to spend 699 but his girlfriend bought one. That best buy ended up selling out of all models, 3G models going last. By my rough estimate if every best buy had 200 and there are over 1000 best buys that means they sold 200K at BB alone. Target and Wal Mart many less per store but many more stores, maybe 100K all together. Verizon and AT&T stores, another 100K, just another guess but seems conservative. 200+ apple stores, 1K each and 200K online, grand total = 800K sold day 1, maybe half a billion plus in sales $.
