Motorola Xoom Flash Player 10.2 Support To Arrive March 18th

Motorola confirmed earlier this morning that a software update was in the process of rolling out for the Xoom. And while they mentioned that it was basically an update that was prepping things for Adobe Flash Player 10.2 support, they did not really mention what else (if anything) that the update offered.

That said, Verizon has stepped up and offered an update with a bit more detail. Though truth be told, there was not much else included in this update. Of course, on the flip side, Verizon did confirm when the Flash Player 10.2 support would arrive.

Anyway, without further adieu, according to Verizon this update is software update HRI66 and includes;

• Support for Adobe Flash Player 10.2
• Clock adjustments for Daylight Savings Time correctly display calendar appointments.

Like we mentioned, not much else was included, however that first bullet point did come with some fine print.

“Flash Player 10.2 will be available for download via Android Market on March 18.”

So there you have it, the Xoom will be Flash capable in just one weeks time. Furthermore, additional details in terms of Flash Player 10.2 from Adobe state that;

“Flash Player 10.2 is a production GA (General Availability) release for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices which meet the Flash Player hardware system requirements.  It is initially a beta release for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets which requires Google’s 3.0.1 system update.”

And as to some of those Android 3.0.1 specific features, those include;

• Hardware accelerated video presentation for H.264
• Deeper integration with the Android browser rendering engine

All said and done, it is nice to see that the Flash Player support is scheduled to arrive fairly quickly. Still, it seem to go without saying that many are still disappointed in the fact that the Xoom did not launch with it as was expected. Now lets just hope that the March 18th date does not get delayed.
