Apple Offers iPad 2 Launch Day Details

Apple had the iPad 2 media event back on March 2nd where Steve Jobs took to the stage and unveiled the second-generation Apple tablet. Of course, at that time we learned all about the new features as well as the device pricing and perhaps most important — that the iPad 2 would be going on sale March 11th.

Anyway flash forward till today, March 10th and Apple has just offered up a press release detailing the launch day process and outlining when the sales will begin both online and in-store.

“Apple today announced that iPad 2, the next generation of its magical device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading ebooks and much more, will be available tomorrow at 5 p.m. local time at all 236 Apple retail stores in the US and through the Apple Store (www.apple.com) beginning at 1 a.m”

In short, those looking to make an in-store purchase will have to wait until 5PM local time and those buying online can move forward at 1AM PST (4AM EST). And in addition to the iPad 2 being available in Apple retail stores, it will also be found (at 5PM local time) with AT&T, Best Buy, Target, Verizon Wireless, Walmart and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

Otherwise, not much else in terms of surprising details, the iMovie and GarageBand apps will be available in the App Store starting today and they will sell for $4.99 each. In addition, the Smart Cover will also be available in a variety of colors. The polyurethane model will sell for $39 and the leather model will sell for $69.

And lastly, in terms of an international release. Apple has stated that the iPad 2 will arrive in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK on March 25th and then “many more countries around the world in the coming months.”
